González: "Football matches are decided in the penalty areas"
The coach reacts to the 0-1 loss at home to Real Sociedad
RCD Espanyol coach Manolo González lamented the missed opportunity for his side to score points against Real Sociedad in the post-match press conference.
Speaking to the media, he said that "from an RCD Espanyol fan's point of view, the result is terrible, but if we analyse the match coldly, we deserved to win. We created chances, but we didn't finish them. In a division like this one, it is that which condemns you. An opposition player finishes into the top corner and you end up losing a match that you deserved to win."
The coach insisted that "we played very well. In the first half we tried to steal the ball and counterattack. Football is about the penalty areas and that's where we lost the match today. The other day against Real Valladolid we were very bad, but today I'm clear that the signings have to get on the pace and as the matches go by, the team will improve. We're only on Matchday 2. Today we're hurt by the result, but at the same time, strengthened because we were superior to Real Sociedad. We were organised and we did what we had to do. I'm going home hurt for the players. They did a great job and deserved to win.”
