García: "We have the mentality of going to the Bernabéu to win"
The goalkeeper previews Saturday's LaLiga game
RCD Espanyol goalkeeper Joan García can expect to be kept busy on Saturday, when Los Pericos face LaLiga's defending champions, Real Madrid.
The shot stopper talked on Thursday about the challenge ahead, explaining that there needs to be optimism amongst the squad.
“The message we have in the dressing room is positive,” he stated. “We are working very well, with a very clear game plan, and we have the mentality of going there to win, whilst aware that it will be very difficult.”
García also drew on what happened a few weeks ago at the Metropolitano against Atletico Madrid as inspiration.
“We have to find our way in the game and get something positive out of it. Real Madrid have enormous power, but we also have our cards to play.”
Regarding the possible interest from other teams in signing him at the end of the transfer window, García explained that “I have been very calm and isolated from all this. I was at the Olympic Games and I know that the last few days before the deadline were very intense, but I had to be strong and I focused on what I had to do. I achieved that. I could not allow myself to have my head anywhere else."
“I have trained hard to get this opportunity to play in goal for RCD Espanyol. Now I just hope that we have a good year. I want to really enjoy this season.”
