Darder: "We have to be at our best"
The midfielder is optimistic about Sunday's game away to Elche
RCD Espanyol's Sergi Darder sat down with the media on Friday, to give his opinions in the runup to Sunday's LaLiga game against Elche away from home.
The midfielder admitted that, after the result of the last matchday,“we would like to be in a better position. When you win you handle things better and when you lose, you don't do that so well. We are looking forward to Sunday's game to try to turn this situation around and take the three points."
Darder is always self-critical, but also prefers to face any situation with optimism.
“If you look at the recent results you might think that we are in crisis, but it is quite the opposite. The team believe in what we are doing," he stated.
"We have to play with the freedom of not thinking about who we are up against. We have to stop being pessimistic and show that we are a good team, as we have shown on many occasions."
"If we aren't on the limit, we won't win. We are a good team when we are at our best. The other day against Real Sociedad we didn't have a good game, but we got back into the match despite the disadvantage on the scoresheet. We need the maximum from everybody. The thing that you can least criticise the team for is our attitude. The team are very strong mentally and that is a facer that can't be lost," continued the Spaniard.
"This is a game of maximum importance. It's not a final because we won't win a cup for it. It's not the last chance to catch the teams above us or anything like that. We know it will be difficult, but we have our chances to win."
Finally, he said that he foresees “an open game, which is something that we must try to take advantage of on Sunday. We are aware that it will be a long game. They are going to try to go after the game very quickly."
