Club Statement
Having carried out the relevant and thorough analysis of video footage of last Saturday’s events, during which racist chanting was directed at Iñaki Williams, RCD Espanyol de Barcelona has determined the involvement of 12 individuals in sectors 107 and 108 of the stadium. All individuals were located outside of the “Grada de Animación”. Nine of them are members, whilst the other three are occasional ticket buyers.
The club will pass the full report to the Committee for Social Discipline for them to determine the correct action to take according to the club’s internal disciplinary procedures, allowing them to trigger the immediate suspension of their season-ticket and membership cards, as well as issuing banning orders from all club activities.
Moreover, the club has passed the report to the relevant law enforcement agencies so that they can investigate and deal with possible criminal offences.
RCD Espanyol de Barcelona again reiterates it’s robust condemnation of any racist and/or violent acts. Throughout its 119-year history, our club has always championed sporting principles such as respect for your opponent, hard work and sacrifice, regardless of the outcome on the field of play.
