21, our emblem
The club celebrates the presentation of the men's and women's Academy teams & of the captains' armbands on a day of tribute to Dani Jarque
A little over a month ago the Ciutat Esportiva Dani Jarque celebrated 21 years, a very special number due to its symbolism for pericos as well as in the world of football.
The figure of the late Dani Jarque has transcended beyond RCD Espanyol, and he is an icon for what he represents and for the legacy he has left in our Club. A reference for our players, the number 21s of Dani Jarque have been very special.
Under the motto “21 applauses”, the men's and women's Academy, the Special teams and the School were the protagonists of an exciting day. Restoring an old tradition interrupted by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the presentation of the Academy and the different teams that train at the Ciutat Esportiva took place.
The captains of the Club’s first teams also had a leading role in the event: Sergi Darder, Sergi Gómez, Joselu, Leandro Cabrera and Javi Puado of the men’s first team; and Cristina Baudet, Marta Turmo, Adriana Martín and Carol Marín of the women’s first team.
Together the first team captains presented the captain's armbands to the respective captains of each team, transferring those principles that make RCD Espanyol players unique and incomparable.
The culmination saw the formation of all the different teams that formed a ‘21’ on pitch 1 of the Ciutat Esportiva Dani Jarque, a special sight for everyone connected to the Club.
“It's the best club in the world to fulfil your dreams", said former men’s first team captain Raúl Tamudo. “To defend the colours and your companions to the death, but also to respect rivals, referees and coaches.”
Club CEO, Mao Ye Wu, said, “The Academy has always been a symbol of the Club. I want to thank all the parents who have come, because we not only train players here, but also people”.
Those present at the event were: Rafa Marañón, former player, advisor and architect of the Ciutat Deportiva; Joan Capdevila, Sports Institutional Relations; Domingo Catoira, Sports Director; Daniel Sánchez Llibre, former President and sponsor of the men's Academy; Jordi Tomàs, Vice-President of the Fundació; Ton Roig, President of the FCPE; Iñaki Pérez de Arrilucea; Toni Blanch and Raúl Longhi, ambassadors; Joan Collet, ex-President of RCD Espanyol; Josep March, territorial manager of Barcelona of the Secretary General of Sport; Hugo Ferrer, first deputy mayor of the Sant Adrià de Besòs City Council; Xavi 'Màgic' Díaz, representative of the Dani Jarque family; Miquel Sellarès, vice president of the FCF; and representatives of the Club’s sponsors.
The youngest players have created an unforgettable memory as they were able to hug, greet and take pictures with their idols. A day full of Espanyolism, feeling and strong blanquiazul emotions that represent RCD Espanyol.
Visca l'Espanyol! Long live Espanyol!
