1-0: Unfair result
A good Espanyol side overcame Cádiz in intensity in a match full of chances and quality game spells for the Blue and Whites
Second test and very good feeling. Second test and good general tone for Espanyol, which filled the friendly with quality play and opportunities, but saw a match it had controlled from the start until the last minute slip away.
Espanyol faced the second preseason friendly knowing that it had already accumulated much intensity and workload in these weeks, but also with a desire to please, to continue testing itself and to apply on the pitch the tasks that Vicente Moreno sets in the day-to-day work. Faced with a recently-promoted side, the best Segunda team throughout the past season, Espanyol shook off all fear and began by being in charge on the pitch. Its first 45 minutes were a monologue of quality football and chances. Oier watched this half as a spectator, as the ball continually hovered around Cádiz’s goal.
Wu missed after an excellent play by Jofre on the right wing as soon as the game started, and then Lluís López and twice Fran Mérida attested to the Blue and Whites’ effort and their insistent search for the rival penalty box before the first quarter of an hour was over.
In a clear Espanyol dominance until the end, there were a couple more chances for Becerra and another one for Wu Lei, who was unable to finalize his header attempt too.
The second half began with the same trend, despite the logical carousel of changes. However, in set play, from a double corner, the ball ended up after a rebound right at Mauro’s feet, who only had to push it into the back of the net. Cádiz’s first presence in the Blue and White area ended up in a goal. So unfair, so frustrating. But, minutes later, a noticeably clear fall by Miguelón in the Cádiz area came to nothing despite the Blue and White protests.
Little by little the game got stuck due to accumulated fatigue, but even so, Gori had an easy shot that ended up missing the goal. In spite of everything, the team had the courage to continue closing in on the Cádiz goal until the last second, until the last breath.
