0-6: Defeat for RCD Espanyol B
Espanyol B beaten at home by Valencia Mestalla
RCD Espanyol B lost 6-0 to Valencia Mestalla on Saturday.
Going into the all-academy clash top of the Segunda RFEF, Luis Blanco made two changes from the win at CD Ebro. Javier Lancho and Roger Martínez came in for Carlos Mangada and Joan Puig at the Ciutat Esportiva Dani Jarque.
It was the visitors Valencia who started stronger, having the early chances and possession of the ball. They broke the deadlock through a long-range strike from Javi Guerra, as a deflection from Lluís Recasens took it away from the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
Espanyol had their backs up against the wall while Valencia carried the momentum. Guerra came close to doubling the lead and his tally but his effort flew wide of the post, before Iker Venteo stood up strong to save from González.
Right on the stroke of half-time, Valencia were awarded a penalty when Raúl Dacosta brought down Fran Pérez. It was Pérez who stepped up and sent Venteo the wrong way, giving the visitors a two-goal advantage going into the break.
Espanyol were forced into a keeper change for the second half, with Lisardo Antequera replacing the injured Venteo. Juan Camilo Becerra had a huge chance to pull one back, but his header was denied brilliantly by opposition goalkeeper Emilio Bernard.
Valencia added a third when they worked the ball to Alberto Marí, who had acres of space to pick his spot and bury it home. Kenneth Soler then had another glaring opportunity for the hosts, seeing his long shot curl inches wide of the top corner.
The away side were awarded another penalty after Aleix Gorjón brought down Marí inside the box, and the striker duly tucked it past Lisardo. Marí completed his hat-trick in the closing stages, cutting past two defenders and finishing for the fifth of the match.
Not long after Diego López burst through and made it six for Valencia. It capped off a tough evening for Espanyol B, who were knocked off the top of the league with their first home defeat of the season.
