0-3:… And the fourth
Espanyol scores 12 points in four consecutive games after beating UD Logroñés
Never, in their seven clashes in Logroño, all in the First, had Espanyol beat the home team. Never. Only three draws. There is nothing left of the Logroñés of the 80s and 90s, nor of the old Las Gaunas, no remnants of the club that had to dissolve due to accumulated debts. The new team was promoted to Second A last season, and is looking to settle down this year. After a dubious start, they managed to achieve six consecutive victories, something that Vicente Moreno has highlighted throughout the week, more than the consecutive defeats they have now accumulated. So there were grounds for the blue and whites to work towards those three points right from the beginning of the game.
UD Logroñés was well aware that they needed to join the lines, press as much as possible and make any offensive action fast to leave Espanyol exposed. Logroñés knew that the only possibility of achieving a good result on the battered grass of the new Las Gaunas would be through this collective effort. They applied themselves with intention from the first moment, but the blue and whites did not want any surprises and sought to command from the beginning. The Catalans had up to three good approaches to Dani Giménez's goal before RDT scored. But the killer's goal, an extraordinary direct free kick, confirmed the blue and white's skills and became a gravestone for the home team. Only a header from Olaetxea to Diego López's right post put an 'ay' in the atmosphere.
Espanyol upped their attack game and, before the break, there was a slightly wide header by David López, an extraordinary play by RDT and the second visitor goal - Darder, header - after a great centre from Oscar Gil.
Just in case, in the second half, Espanyol pushed forward from the beginning to avoid surprises. Javi Puado, in an individual move, scored the third to seal the deal.
A little later, and with full command of both position and the game, Wu Lei put the home team's goalkeeper to the test again, and again, he produced a prodigious hand to deflect the shot.
The home team drew strength to continue approaching Diego López's goal, but all their plays were diluted by the blue and whites' good work and defensive intensity, and Espanyol were finally able to reach four consecutive games this season, adding the three points.
