0-2: Mission accomplished
Two goals (Wu Lei and Max Svensson) confirmed that Espanyol will go through to the next round of the Copa after playing a Burgos that stood its ground
Wu Lei opened the scoring shortly into the second half, and Max Svensson closed it on the siren to certify Espanyol's classification in this second Copa del Rey qualifying round.
The game, as expected, was complicated, difficult to play, not only because of the home team's spirit but also because of freezing temperatures and a half-frozen playing field. Espanyol wanted to be in command from the beginning against a team that wants to get back into professional football after many years of absence. To do this, it is building a new sports project that is full of hope and confidence. Burgos wants to grow with solid steps, and thus is passing through this new formula of the Segunda B. And that's how it happened in the Copa, against an Espanyol that had to adapt to the field and the climate. The 90 minutes were played in below zero temperatures with a whole side band, from corner to corner, covered in a layer of ice that made it difficult to control the game.
Wu Lei had two clear opportunities before the 10th minute, and Nico Melamed had another midway through the first half. The home team had only a header from Guillermo, which went wide.
Shortly after the second half began, Wu Lei found Didac's centre and overcame the home side's goalkeeper with a header. The 0-1 score caused a reaction from Burgos which, the following minute, forced Oier to shine after a series of rebounds inside the area. Shortly afterwards, the keeper had to prove himself just as accurate with a second save on a ball from Juanma.
The minutes went by and Espanyol was unable to score another goal. Jofre also had a chance after an individual action, but his shot came off the post. With the last gasp, Max Svensson made it 0-2 with remarkable definition.
