0-2: Defeat at the Dani Jarque
RCD Espanyol B beaten by RCD Mallorca B on Sunday
RCD Espanyol B were defeated 2-0 at home by RCD Mallorca B on Sunday.
Luis Blanco named a strong starting XI for the visit of the Mallorcan youngsters, searching for a third win on the bounce. It featured a quartet that have played for the men’s first team this season, of Omar, Simo, Dani Villahermosa and Roger Martínez.
Espanyol had the first chance of the afternoon when Juan Camilo Becerra turned it goalbound from close range, drawing a top save from goalkeeper Álex Quevedo. Mallorca then came close themselves but Ángel Fortuño stood strong to deny them.
An open encounter saw the majority of the chances going the way of the hosts, with a big double chance that was stopped by a double save from Quevedo. They almost went behind when Ibrahim Diabate had the ball in the back of the net, but was offside in the build-up leaving it all square going into half-time.
Having been denied the lead towards the end of the first half, Mallorca would eventually take it in the second through Ibra’s free kick. That triggered the hosts to change it up, bringing on fresh legs out wide in Raúl Dacosta and Luca Koleosho to get back into it.
Espanyol were the ones in possession and though they looked more likely to scoring, they could not find a way through the visiting defence. Mallorca needed only a break and capitalised when Ibra doubled his tally and their advantage in a swift counter-attack, wrapping up the match and leaving Espanyol B comprehensively beaten.
