“We have to row until the end”
Manolo González insists the team will keep fighting for automatic promotion after the draw with Real Valladolid
RCD Espanyol men’s head coach Manolo González reflected on the goalless draw with Real Valladolid on Saturday.
The 0-0 draw at the Estadio José Zorrilla keeps Espanyol five points off the automatic promotion spots with three games left to play. They are back at the Stage Front Stadium for the visit of Real Oviedo next, another direct promotion battle next Monday.
González said, “We will make the most of all the options we have to win and secure the play off if we cannot secure automatic promotion. If we cannot reach the goal, we have to try to finish as high as possible. We have to row until the end, no matter what. I leave angry and annoyed, but with the mentality of moving forward”.
The coach continued, “The team was dead, with the injuries and everything that has happened, and we would have gotten carried away and ended up losing. The team had faith, we are not dead. We leave annoyed because in the second half we couldn't compete as we would have liked”.
