“We have to go out to win”
Manolo González is targeting maximum points for the rest of the season, starting against Albacete BP
Manolo González is focused on no less than nine wins from the final nine games of the season ahead of the match against Albacete Balompié on Sunday.
The battle for promotion is heating up and RCD Espanyol will look to return to winning ways when they host Albacete at the Stage Front Stadium. A win will see them return to the top two, and it is needed after last week’s goalless draw with Burgos CF.
González said, “There are nine games left. I want to get 27 points and not look at anyone else. We can't think about getting 20, 21... every team is having a hard time getting three points. We have to go out to win and know that only victory is worth it. That is the mentality from here to the end”.
Espanyol remain unbeaten in seven outings but need to maximise their points collected in these final months of the campaign, with the top teams in LALIGA HYPERMOTION separated by a mere matter of points.
The gaffer continued, “We have to be strong at home, but that alone is not enough, as we also have to win away. There is no margin for error left. After last weekend's game in Burgos, the team was angry - and that is a very good sign - and came out in a rush, already thinking about this Sunday.
“I want to come home proud of what the team has done on the pitch and with our heads held high. That is only proven with facts. We have to be positive from within and we have to convince the fans on the pitch by competing at a high level. I see the team convinced, eager and it's time to translate that onto the pitch”.
