“We did not lose face in this game”
Rufete says the team has been penalized by the Real Sociedad goal that levelled the score
Espanyol came close to taking a positive result from San Sebastián, but saw Real Sociedad make a comeback in the final minutes. “Perhaps we have lacked the stamina to score the second goal. They push you, they make you make mistakes. They have pushed a couple of times, not continuously, but we have made a mistake and it is a strong team that can punish you”, Rufete said.
The Blue and Whites coach pointed out that “we started well, we scored the goal and we finished well the first half, and we also started well after the break. We have been penalized when they made it 1-1, but we have continued without losing face, though we were not as incisive as in the first half”. Rufete insisted that “you have to stay strong mentally, you have to keep on fighting. We know what the situation is and what is at stake. The team has played leaving aside its situation and, in that sense, I am proud of them. “In our situation, being competitive against Real is very important”.
