“The team knows what they have to do”
Manolo González hopes to end the regular season on a high at home to FC Cartagena
RCD Espanyol men’s head coach Manolo González hopes to end the regular season on a high against FC Cartagena on Sunday.
González said, “We will face a team that comes to compete, as they did away to Eibar. It will be very complicated, they can play without pressure, but that will not take away from their competitiveness. We must compete, and the team knows what they have to do. Just as it is costing us more in attack, it is also difficult for them to beat us”.
With their spot in the LALIGA Hypermotion play-offs confirmed, matchday 42 will see Espanyol play for their exact spot which determines whether they will play at home in the first leg or the second leg. They can finish in any of the four positions, making Sunday at the Stage Front Stadium an ever-important encounter.
The head coach continued, “By winning we can become third and that determines a lot. The past is worthless, whether it is good or bad. You have to look forward. Our options for automatic promotion have disappeared and we have to give everything we have so that the team is where it belongs, which is the top flight.
“I understand that the fans are frustrated with recent results but they are always by our side. Any team that plays in a play-off must be fully aware of what it is about. We know that we have to turn up if we want to make it back to the first division”.
