“The draw was not worth it to us”
Manolo González reflects on two points lost in the goalless draw with Burgos CF
Manolo González regrets the missed opportunity to get the three points away to Burgos CF in the 0-0 draw on Friday night.
RCD Espanyol played out a goalless, rainy affair at El Plantío, missing the chance to extend their advantage in the automatic promotion spots and close the gap to the top of the table.
González said, “I'm disappointed because I always want to win. We made changes to win, knowing that we could break the game. The draw was not worth it to us. We managed to break the game, yes, but we were not effective in front of goal. We made no mistakes, except for the disallowed goal play early on”.
Espanyol extend their unbeaten run in LALIGA Hypermotion to seven games, which include a revived run of results away from home. Next up is the visit of Albacete to the Stage Front Stadium, where the Mágico will be keen to return to winning ways.
The head coach continued, “I am convinced that, if we had been a little calmer, perhaps we would have overcome that pressure, but Burgos do this very well. We took risks and we cannot fall to counter attacks because they almost cost us in the end; we have to improve that. As soon as we started to play calmly we had chances.
“We have to finish plays to kill the game. That's what we lacked in a game like today. We must put an end to the cons because otherwise it will cause us enormous wear and tear”.
