“Parakeets are setting example for society”
The vice-president of RCD Espanyol de Barcelona, Carlos García Pont, highlights the social work of the club and its fans during the current crisis
Vice-President Carlos García Pont wanted to send a message to encourage all the fans of RCD Espanyol de Barcelona during this crisis that we are all living together due to COVID-19. Despite the current social and health crisis and the growing economic difficulties, Carlos García Pont wanted to highlight precisely the strength of the Blue and Whites’ fans and the club itself to face these moments, highlighting the multiple actions of solidarity that have been launched in recent weeks under the blue and white stamp: “I am convinced that the parakeets at the moment are setting an example for society, we are setting an example with the initiatives that the RCDE fans have undertaken, the Penya Juvenil Espanyolista 1991, parakeets individually, the work that parakeets doctors and nurses are performing, the work we all do in our roles”.
“We all have to contribute, to turn this tragedy that we have had to experience into an opportunity to improve the society we live in, and here the parakeets have a head start. We parakeets know how to suffer, fight and work with ambition to achieve all our goals. That is why society cannot do without us, I think that we are the ones who will ensure that this society is not the same as before, but better after this pandemic, that Espanyol and Espanyol supporters, Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain and the rest of the world are better, that each and every one of us will have gone one step further in the fight and the necessary ambition that all parakeets have,” the vice-president emphasized.
García Pont appeared with an image of the RCDE Stadium in the background to convey a very clear idea to all the Blue and White fans: “This image of the stadium reminds us all of the feeling that unites us, this strong feeling, that reminds us of Espanyol’s values: humility, work, ambition, which Dani Jarque described so well. An image of the pitch that reminds us of the suffering and the struggle, the suffering that we currently have at the social level of parakeets all over the world, of the entire society that surrounds us, suffering that, due to health problems, we have all experienced within our family, our acquaintances, friends and close people”.
In this respect, the vice-president of RCD Espanyol de Barcelona, also wanted to address a few words of comfort and encouragement to all those affected by this serious crisis: “People who are suffering from this disease with more or less virulence, whether in hospital or not, friends and acquaintances who have died from this disease, to all of them we express our support, strength, solidarity and regret for those who have left us, and the trust that this will make us stronger”.
