“It is always important to win”
Manolo González insists that the fight for automatic promotion is not over after victory over Real Oviedo.
RCD Espanyol men’s head coach Manolo González insists that the fight for automatic promotion is not over, speaking after Monday’s 2-1 win over Real Oviedo.
González said, “I am of course happy and proud, though a little angry about the set piece goal we conceded, but we were able to fix it and get three points. Now we must transmit calmness; errors cost you more than successes from here to the end. We hope that this victory liberates the players, although what would really do it would be to win two games in a row”.
Espanyol prevailed thanks to Martin Braithwaite’s penalty and a first goal of the campaign for Leandro Cabrera, coming from behind to earn a massive three points in the promotion battle. Two games remain of the regular season: an away trip to Amorebieta on Saturday, before the final home game against Cartagena on 2nd June.
González continued, “I am very happy to come from behind to win, with so many losses and finishing with many players from the B team. Now we must beat Amorebieta to try to reach automatic promotion or compete in the play-off with the maximum mentality. It is always important to win and now even more so. The team must be stable and with confidence, we want to be a dogged team that is hard to beat”.
