“I’m not happy with the draw”
Manolo González apologised for his sending off in the goalless draw with CD Leganés
Manolo González had mixed feelings with the point from the 0-0 draw at CD Leganés on Friday night.
He said, "I think that was the best game since I've been in the dugout, in all aspects. We kept them at bay, but it was a pity that we could not finish our clear chances. This has to be killed off, the players told me when coming into the dressing room. The team is improving and we started well, and I’m proud of the players’ hard work”.
Espanyol came away with a point in an intense goalless draw at Butarque, which was marred by a controversial VAR call to rule out a first-half penalty awarded for a foul on Nico Melamed. Furthermore, González was sent off in the second period in what was a heated affair in the battle for top spot.
On the officiating decisions, the coach replied, “I don't want to get into the referee debate. I apologise for my red card; I overreacted, and I apologise to the fans and the team. Overall I'm not happy with the draw. It's a minor problem, but the way the game went, we deserved more”.
