The Stage Front Stadium hosts FIFA
RCD Espanyol welcomed a delegation from FIFA in its bid to be a host stadium for the 2030 World Cup
On Friday the Stage Front Stadium received a visit from a FIFA delegation, accompanied by representatives of the candidacy shared by Portugal, Spain and Morocco for the 2030 World Cup.
The delegation of the highest international football organisation thoroughly examined the Stage Front Stadium, which aspires to be one of the host venues for the World Cup. Representatives from FIFA, the candidate nations and the Business Units - created specifically for this project - began their visit of potential hosts in Portugal on Monday.
Deputy general director of RCD Espanyol, Antoni Alegre, accompanied by the stadium’s different technicians, were in charge of welcoming and receiving the entire delegation. Stadium and operations director, Mariano Tejero, and Andreu Tusell, the architect and partner who is assisting the Club in the stadium renovation project, were in charge of giving the technical explanations.
The FIFA delegation was led by Nicholas Rozenberg. María Tato, Jorge Mowinckel and Fernando Sanz, members of the Steering Committee of the candidacy, attended on behalf of the RFEF, alongside members of the Moroccan and Portuguese federations. Representatives of the City Councils of Cornellà and El Prat de Llobregat and the Catalan Football Federation also attended the meeting.
The Stage Front Stadium aspires to take over the baton of the Estadi de Sarrià, our former home which hosted some of the best matches of the 1982 World Cup that was held in Spain. In the near 15 years since its opening, the stadium has hosted world-class national teams such as Brazil, Morocco and Spain.
