RCD Espanyol travel down to Andalusia to take on Sevilla FC midweek
RCD Espanyol are back on the road midweek when they go to Sevilla on Thursday.
After a triumphant weekend where they picked up their first win in nine matches against Getafe, Espanyol now head down to Andalusia hoping to emerge from the relegation zone. Sevilla are seemingly out of the relegation battle and pushing up mid-table, though come off the back of a home defeat to Girona earlier this week.

The season so far
Sevilla have spent most of the season in and around the relegation zone, but their fortunes looked to have changed with the arrival of new manager José Luis Mendilibar. They have reached the Europa League semi-final under the Basque coach, while aiming to get into the top-half before the end of the season.
Standout player
In a season of inconsistencies for Sevilla, Youssef En-Nesyri has continued to excel up top. The Moroccan international has scored eight goals in his last 14 LaLiga appearances and is growing from strength to strength throughout this season.
Last time at the RCDE Stadium
Espanyol and Sevilla played out an end-to-end encounter in the reverse fixture earlier in the season, with the visitors racing into an early lead at the RCDE Stadium. Joselu’s penalty and Braithwaite’s first home goal brought the Mágico within one goal, but it was not to be as Espanyol fell to a 3-2 defeat at the Temple.
Club links
Aleix Vidal travels to his former team this week, where he made 87 appearances across two spells for Sevilla. In 2021 he returned to Espanyol having spent his formative years in Barcelona, where he is now an important part of the blanquiazul squad.
