Match Report: 1-0 away defeat to Getafe
An early goal denies RCD Espanyol a share of the points
An early goal from opponents Getafe led to a 1-0 defeat for Espanyol on the road, as they rounded off Matchday 16 in LaLiga.
Espanyol needed to change their dynamic away from home, where they have only picked up one point so far this season, but a hard fought, intense game awaited them.
The home team had already put the Joan García to the test within four minutes, with a strike from Arambarri and follow-up from Cabo. However, the Catalan goalkeeper could do nothing to stop a header from Álvaro Rodríguez that opened the scoring.
Espanyol reacted quickly with a great opportunity for Král, but the Czech international had his finish deflected out by defender Diego Rico. A free kick from Brian Oliván and a solo move from Cardona, poorly struck by the Frenchman, were the main attacks for Los Pericos in the first half.
Manolo González brought on Cheddira at the start of the second half, to keep Cardona company in the attack. RCD Espanyol performed well and presented a lot of danger in the opposing area, with Cheddira just a few centimetres away from finishing off a pass from Oliván from the left. Král then tried with a shot from outside the area that went very close to goal.
Next to try his luck was Javi Puado, who headed into the ground off a cross from Cardona.
Espanyol reached the decisive part of the match still in with a chance against a Getafe that did not show excessive confidence. They continued to create, and another shot by Cardona went wide before the end, but finally the game ended 1-0.
