Martínez: “We want to continue like this”
The míster assures focus is always on the next match ahead of the trip to Almería
Diego Martínez has insisted that all focus and importance is on the next match ahead of Friday’s trip to Almería.
RCD Espanyol conclude the first half of the LaLiga season with Friday night football at the Power Horse Stadium, against a side evenly matched against them in the table. The coach addressed the media at the Ciutat Esportiva Dani Jarque on Thursday afternoon.
Martínez said, “It is getting harder to win every time, but we believe in what we do. There is no match more or less important than the other, and the next one is always the most important. Tomorrow will be a difficult and complex match, as well as attractive and exciting”.
“We want to continue like this, but we know that getting each point really matters”, he explained. “To achieve this we have to do many things well throughout the match. I've said it many times: we can beat anyone, but we have to put in really hard-fought performance to get three points against anyone at any ground”.
Almería are the final opponents of the first half of the campaign, with the Andalusian side right on the pericos’ tail in 14th and one point behind. The red-and-white side have one of the strongest home records in the league, on par with those in the European spots.
On Almería, Martinez commented, “They are an opponent with many arguments in their favour. We are facing a strong team who have a great record at home, and have a lot of strengths in their game. We will go there with excitement and confidence in our identity and values”.
The coach concluded, “We are in a positive moment, an exciting moment and one of reinforcement of what we are doing. That does not take anything away and I am not going to talk about what is going to happen tomorrow, because I do not know what will happen tomorrow.
“What I do know is that we are a much better team than a month ago. We are a much better collective on all levels than we were four months ago, and that is what excites me and satisfies me as the coach”.
