Martin Braithwaite signs for RCD Espanyol
Danish striker becomes tenth summer signing
Martin Braithwaite has signed for RCD Espanyol as a free agent.
The 31-year-old striker joins the club on a three-year deal, having terminated his contract with FC Barcelona. He has signed a deal at the RCDE Stadium which runs until 30th June 2025.
Braithwaite is an experienced forward for club and country, including as an established Denmark international with 10 goals and 60 caps to his name.
He has played at multiple international tournaments including the 2018 World Cup and EURO 2020. In the latter, he played every game and scored in the 4-0 win over Wales in the round of 16, as Denmark went on to reach the semi-finals.
Braithwaite began his career with Esbjerg fB in his native Denmark, before spending four years with Toulouse. He left in 2017 to join English side Middlesbrough, going on loan to Bordeaux and then CF Leganés who he joined permanently in 2019.
An impressive season with the then-LaLiga club generated interest from Barcelona, and he was signed in 2020. Braithwaite made 58 appearances for the club, scoring twice en route to winning the Copa del Rey the following year.
Braithwaite passed his medical at the Clínica Corachan on Thursday morning, and will join up with new coach Diego Martínez and the first team on Friday.
The Dane is the tenth summer signing for Espanyol, along with Joselu, Brian Oliván, Tonny Vilhena, Vinicius Souza, Benjamin Lecomte, Edu Expósito, Dani Gómez, José Carlos Lazo and Álvaro Fernandez.
Welcome to Espanyol, Martin! #BraithwaitePerico
