Marbella training camp ends with win over Al Wakrah
Rubén Sánchez finds the target in a 1-0 victory
RCD Espanyol earned another victory in Marbella in their friendly against Al Wakrah, beating the Qatari side 1-0 thanks to a goal from Rubén Sánchez.
Previous opponents had already warned that the Asian team were a more competent prospect than expected, and they proved this with a good start.
However, it was RCD Espanyol's Dimata who had the first opportunity to score, mishitting his shot by a matter of centimetres. Lazo found himself in a very similar situation shortly after.
The clearest chance, however, came from the penalty spot. It was Dimata who took stepped up for the spot kick, but the opposing goalkeeper guessed his intentions correctly and kept the Belgian's shot out.
Keidi Bare had the last look on goal before the interval, with a good header, whilst Al Wakrah only came close once, with Ángel clearing away Ayoub Asal's swerving strike.
Espanyol came out strong for the second half and, after two minutes, Rubén Sánchez scored the first goal of the game, becoming the top preseason marksman to date.
As expected, Al Wakrah dropped off somewhat after the break and Luis García's men found themselves much more comfortable, putting a lot of pressure on the opposition when they brought the ball out.
A shot from Dimata that went wide preceded a penalty appeal that fell on deaf ears.
Los Pericos continued to attack insistently and created a lot of danger, as Dimata sent a shot against the post after a great solo run and Nabil also had a very clear shot that goalkeeper Alsayed saved. The score remained 1-0, and Espanyol ended their time in Marbella with another positive display.
