The former RCD Espanyol player returns to take charge of the men’s first team
“The best thing about Barcelona is being part of Espanyol” is the now renowned quote by Luis García, who is the new men’s first team coach of RCD Espanyol.
The 42-year-old signed a contract as head coach on Monday until 30th June 2024, and will lead his first training session at the Ciutat Esportiva Dani Jarque on Tuesday.
García arrives at RCD Espanyol after three notable seasons at the helm of CF Damm's youth team, having retired from professional football in 2019. His impressive performance led him to RSC International – Real Madrid’s C team – this season, who he now departs to return to the RCDE Stadium.
During his five years in the blanquiazul shirt, García made 262 appearances across all competitions with 60 goals. He played a pivotal role in the Mágico’s 2006 Copa del Rey triumph, scoring a brace in the final against Real Zaragoza, and played in the UEFA Cup Final the following year.
Following the first team training session, Luis García will be presented as head coach this Tuesday at the Juan Segura Palomares auditorium at the RCDE Stadium, at approximately 1:30pm CEST.
