Lozano speaks of Jarque's influence
The current captain talks about the legacy of the club legend
Since he was eight years old, when he joined the club, Pol Lozano has been a regular captain for the teams in the RCD Espanyol youth system. Now one of the skippers for the first team, he follows in the footsteps of the late club legend, Dani Jarque.
On the fifteenth anniversary of Jarque's death, Lozano spoke of his legacy, commenting that "it is important that the entire squad is present on a day like this, which is a special day for all Pericos".
"On the day of this stadium's inauguration I was a ball boy at the match, and I have gone on to share the same agent, Màgic Díaz, who gave me one of the last pairs of boots that Jarque wore."
On the defender's impact on him, Lozano explained that "He was a player that I looked up to when I was in the youth system. For a player like me, who has been here for many years, it is very special to remember a figure like Dani, who is part of the club's history.
“I have been lucky to be able to wear the captain's armband and to transmit the feeling that I have felt on the pitch. Wearing it, with the number 21, is one of the most special things that can happen to you. You feel that you have him with you and that he gives you strength.”
“It is very important that the people who are new to this club know about the affection that there is for Jarque and the importance that he has. We have to transmit to them everything we can, so that they realise that this is a very special day for all of us.”
