RCD Espanyol and Javi Puado have reached a definitive agreement to extend his contractual bond up to 30 June 2025. By doing so, the white and blue club ensures the continuity of one of its most outstanding homegrown players who took a step forward after his transfer from R. Zaragoza and had a superb season in the second division in which he was one of the frequently mentioned names in the league, and one of the most outstanding players in Spanish football.
This renewal confirms the will and determination of RCD Espanyol to retain its main assets, and to maintain the line shown in the latest markets in order to keep making our sports heritage grow.
Since Puado arrived at RCD Espanyol as a youth player, he debuted with Espanyol B in a match versus Valencia in the Mestalla and helped the B team with its promotion to Segunda División B (Second Division B). His debut in the first division was on 18 August 2018 versus Celta de Vigo, and in the 2019-2020 season, he ended up being transferred to Real Zaragoza where he his performance was exceptional. As we know, last season he was one of the most outstanding players in the RCD Espanyol side.
During the 2020/21 campaign, the Catalonian forward notched up 12 goals and set up his teammates with 8 assists. In addition, his performance was decisive in the Spanish national under-21 team in the UEFA European Championship and even managed to debut with the Spanish national team with a goal against Lithuania. The climax of his superb performance was his recent call-up for the Spanish Olympic team.
This progression by the player is a result of a sports model of development and progression, which has been key for the player having a clear priority to continue with his club.
A day will be chosen to formalise the contract in front of the media once Javi Puado is back from his participation in the Tokyo Olympic Games with the Spanish national team.
