González: "We want to make everyone take a step forward"
The coach talks about Matchday 2
Before RCD Espanyol's home debut this season at the RCDE Stadium, coach Manolo González spoke to the media in his pre-match press conference. In his address, he highlighted the importance of "making everyone take a step forward."
"We want to have a good game and for the team to give the showing that we all want, which we saw in the playoff at the end of last season. We want to regain the feeling that we did not have the other day," he stated.
"We made mistakes in the first half in the opening game, whilst in the second half we were better. We need to get everybody together. There are players who have just arrived and who have to get on the pace."
Regarding Real Sociedad, González commented that "we will have to minimise the good things that La Real have. It will be difficult because they are a very good team and we have to be aware of where we are. We already saw last week that there are many draws in the division, and the wins are by the slimmest of margins. That will be the case throughout the season. It will be a game in which we will be running a lot and doing important collective work to win. I expect great opposition. The numbers they have achieved in recent seasons confirm this. They lost the other day against Rayo Vallecano, but we have to realise the difficulties that all games have. We have to focus on ourselves and be more incisive than we were last week. Tomorrow we will have to defend. It will be very important to know how to play this game,” he concluded.
