González: "It's a beautiful day"
The coach reacts to the win over Real Madrid
Following the sensational win over Real Madrid, RCD Espanyol coach Manolo González expressed his pride in the performance from his players.
“It's been a tough season so far. I'm happy for the fans and the players. It's a beautiful day because you've beaten the league champions, which gives you a big boost and strength. It's another game without losing points,” he said in his post-match press conference.
“The boys were flying. Although there are bad days, the team believe in themselves. Today was the day. I would have liked to have played a different way, but you saw the opponents we had in front of us. We did a terrific job in defence. We lacked more calm on our transitions in the first half, whilst in the second we had that patience and it was how we scored,” he explained.
González said that “I was excited to win a game like this, to excite the fans. I feel a lot of passion for my job and I defend my club to the death. If I have defended the other teams I have coached to the death, with Espanyol it goes even further.”
“I'm very happy for the players and fans. Many times they go home disappointed, but today they are very happy. There is still a lot of work ahead. Last year we were promoted and now it's time to work, work, work. Until the last day of the season, we will give our all," he concluded.
