Expósito: “You can always improve and contribute more”
Midfielder insists the hard work keeps going during off-season
Edu Expósito spoke to the media at a pre-match press conference on Tuesday.
The first team squad are back in training after a period of test, as they work towards their off-season training camp in Murcia.
Speaking at the Ciutat Esportiva Dani Jarque, Expósito said, “It's like the first day of school. We are seeing each other again after a few days off and it is a bit new, different, because a World Cup is being played, but we have to think about our day-to-day work.
“I am happy with the work and the contribution that I am giving to the group. You can always improve and contribute more to the team. And that's where I'm at.”
Diego Martínez’s men have less than two weeks until their next match, a friendly against Italian side Torino on 10th December. The next competitive fixture follows 10 days later, as Espanyol travel to Atlético Paso in the Copa del Rey second round.
Expósito said, “We have a very important Cup match coming up first before the derby, it is never easy to play at a stadium like that. A break to clear our minds is always good, but now we have to think about the Cup and progressing to the next round.”
Having arrived this summer, the midfielder has settled in well to life at Espanyol. He commented, “I’m really grateful to everyone at the Club for making me feel comfortable, I’m really happy and grateful for everything here.”
Finally, on the work being done during the World Cup break, Expósito said, “We have to concede less in our area and know how to finish in front of goal. We must keep correcting things, perfecting them and that's what the coach asks of us, to be a better team”.
