Cabrera: "We want to be in the game from the first minute"
The defender readies the team for the match against Sevilla FC
Playing against Sevilla FC to open LaLiga Matchday 11, RCD Espanyol are ready for their Friday night fixture. Talismanic defender Leandro Cabrera talked to the media on Wednesday to preview the game.
"The loss to Athletic Club was a hard setback, but it is a relief to be back competing so quickly. We are focused on winning the match, and want to be in the game from the first minute. We want to compete at the highest level," he told journalists.
"Sevilla are a very competitive side, and an historic team in the division, but we have been growing and evolving throughout these last few weeks. We have the points we expected at this time in the season. We could have more, but we have won the key matches against direct rivals, making ourselves strong at home."
He also pointed out that "we have gone through very bad times together and we do not want to go through them again. It is the second time that it has happened to us. When you do not go out there to compete with complete attention, this happens. San Mamés is a very difficult ground to win at, but that way in which we lost does not represent us or the club. We know that the schedule is tough, whoever is coming up, but we have a lot of confidence in our ability.”
He admitted that the next match “is very important. For us it is urgent to win and redeem ourselves for what happened last week. The team compete well, even having lost at home against Villarreal and Real Sociedad. We will try to take advantage of our form.”
