Cabrera: "We have to reduce the mistakes"
RCD Espanyol co-captain speaks ahead of next LaLiga clash
Leandro Cabrera, RCD Espanyol's co-captain, spoke on Thursday about the current mood in the squad and reflected on the recent performances.
“We have to reduce the mistakes that we make and win games. That's the key to everything," he explained. "It would be worse to for us if there were some sort of general crisis with the way that we play, because it would be much more difficult for us to climb up the table.
"Right now we are doing well in terms of our pressing, we have chances and our forwards are scoring goals, but it's just these mistakes that cloud the many things we do well. There is no other objective than to win games, and if we can win with a clean sheet, then all the better."
With that in mind, he cited the example of the solidity of Burgos in the Segunda División, who are yet to concede a goal this season.
"The teams with the fewest goals scored against them are the ones that fight for big things in all the big leagues," noted Cabrera.
“We are very calm because we are working very well, we don't leave anything to chance and because we do 99% of things either very well or better,” assured the centre back, adding, “There is a spectacularly strong dressing room here, with exceptional human beings. In terms of our mentality, we have turned around countless games, and that is something that I had never experienced at Espanyol before. We can't let everyone else's nervousness get to us."
He also spoke about his recent contract renewal, expressing his happiness with extending his stay at the RCDE Stadium.
He said, "It was something I wanted because I'm very happy with the team, the people and the coaching staff that we have. I think something very special is coming together here. I arrived at Espanyol in one of the club's most delicate situations in recent times, and my wish is to leave here with the club as high as possible.
"The longer I wear this shirt, the more I will be able to tell people where the club was and where I left it. That excites me."
