B. Oliván: "The match against Celta Vigo is vital"
The full-back speaks before Saturday's LaLiga showdown
The RCD Espanyol squad are fully focused on this weekend's match against Celta Vigo, and fullback Brian Oliván emphasised the team's motivation to take all three points against a direct rival on LaLiga Matchday 26.
Speaking on Thursday, he said, "This will be a very important game. There are thirteen more matches left in what has been a very tight season so far. A win earns you three points and also stops your rival from picking up points. From now on, every game will have a big say in how the season goes. We are going to have to manage those small details that occur in matches."
The defender insisted that the team are not worried about lacking the quality to move further clear of the relegation zone, saying that "we are more than capable of overcoming this situation."
“We are focused on this weekend's game. It's vital. The sides that most believe in their possibilities and takes care of the small details will make it," added Oliván.
"Right now, there are ten teams very close together in the table and the one that believes the most in its possibilities will come out better off."
Of Espanyol's season to date, one of the most prominent players in the team commented that "we have brought the best out of ourselves in the face of adversity.
We've improved since the first game. We had many new players come in and we had to adapt. Now you see a much more cohesive team. The players have evolved. I feel more confident than on the first day I arrived here. I am very happy and we have to continue on this path."
The matchday is the last before the international break, and Oliván believes callups for Sergi Darder and Joselu would be deserved for the RCD Espanyol pair.
“I'm happy for them because they deserve it. They look very calm. I don't think they have any extra pressure on them because of this," he concluded.
