3-1: Impressive win for RCD Espanyol B
Third consecutive win for Luis Blanco's B team
RCD Espanyol B beat Badalona Futur 3-1 at the Ciutat Esportiva Dani Jarque on Sunday.
Sitting second in the Segunda RFEF pre-match, Espanyol were vying for a third consecutive win which could see them go top. There was also a familiar face returning for Badalona Futur in Juan Forlín, who spent four years in the blanquiazul shirt.
The hosts had a positive start as Abde Damar had two early opportunities in front of goal. He first hooked a shot past the wrong side of the post, before a good free kick routine saw the forward fire his shot into the arms of the goalkeeper.
Badalona Futur began to grow into the game, with their best chance coming through Edgar Hernández’s header over the bar. But it would soon turn sour for the visitors when Adri García was sent off for a second booking, lunging into Roger Martínez.
With the one-man advantage showing in the match, Espanyol opened the scoring in style. A free kick into the box was knocked on to Javier Lancho, who had the confidence to pull off an overhead kick and finish into the top corner with a sumptuous goal.
Espanyol doubled their lead soon after the restart when Juan Camilo Becerra found himself one-on-one with Isaac Becerra. Unable to find a way through, he pulled it back to an open Martínez who pulled the ball from behind him and tucked it away for two.
Badalona Futur would pull one back with a direct free kick from Edgar, which flew past Ángel Fortuño into the top corner. But Espanyol would instantly restore the two-goal cushion, as Becerra’s header was heading wide until Nabil slid in to score brilliantly from the byline.
The visitors looked certain to have another consolation on the break, but Lancho made a great goal-line clearance. Fortuño then made a solid save at the near post, as Badalona Futur pressed harder despite the deficit in scoreline and players on the pitch.
Despite the late pressure and chances on goal, Espanyol saw out the match and with that an impressive win. It is their third win on the bounce in the Segunda RFEF, as they remain unbeaten this season at the Ciutat Esportiva Dani Jarque.
