1-1: All square in Andorra
RCD Espanyol pick up a point away to FC Andorra
RCD Espanyol played out a 1-1 draw away to FC Andorra on Saturday.
For the final away match of 2023, Luis Miguel Ramis’ side travelled to the Andorran capital for a first league meeting with Andorra. Edu Expósito, off the back of his first goal of the season last time out, almost doubled his tally in the opening minutes by trying to catch the goalkeeper out when he was off his line.
Andorra came close to taking the lead themselves when Manu Nieto won his header inside the box, but Fernando Pacheco was saved by the woodwork. Pacheco would be called into action not long after as this time he denied Nieto with a decent save.
Espanyol pushed and had a golden chance when Martin Braithwaite broke past the defence, but he could not find the target nor a teammate before the opposition recovered to clear it for a corner. Pere Milla’s header at the near post then went just shy of the target, leaving it a goalless affair going into the break.
Ramon Ramos came on at half-time for a breath of fresh air, and not long after Espanyol broke the deadlock through an own goal by Andorra’s Diego Pampín. Now with the advantage, the Mágico could play their game a bit more, albeit wary of the hosts.
With seven minutes left on the clock, Andorra found an equaliser as Ivan Gil headed home. An even encounter ended all square at the Estadi Nacional d’Andorra, leaving Espanyol with a point on the road ahead of the final game of the year on Tuesday at home to Burgos CF.
